We’re totally suckers for a sweet backyard wedding, and if we were to throw one ourselves right now, it might look something like Amanda + Alex’s charming homespun New Jersey nuptials. For these cuties, as much focus was placed on their guests as was on the two of them. And that turned their day into a celebration filled with so much love + meaning, it couldn’t not be a total success. Let’s hear a little bit more about all that from Amanda:
Sweet New Jersey Backyard Wedding: Amanda + Alex
Intimate Boho Backyard Wedding: Jennie + Zach
Jennie + Zach’s intimate bohemian backyard wedding could easily be mistaken for a stunning styled shoot, but it’s actually one of the most authentic weddings we’ve seen. With Jennie’s dad being diagnosed with a rare stage IV cancer, she + Zach decided quickly to move the ceremony date up so that he could be there comfortably, and able to walk her down the aisle. With the help of their close friends and family, and Nikki + Taylor of Blooming House Collective, Jennie + Zach pulled their beautiful celebration together in less than a week (WOW!), and created a ceremony and a moment in time that will always be remembered by the two of them and their guests as something incredible.
Modern Toronto Backyard Wedding: Jac + Adrian
Easy, simple and inviting were the key words Jac + Adrian initially threw around when thinking about their big day. And they already knew where they’d tie the knot before they knew any of the other details. Jac’s family cottage on Lake Simcoe in Toronto was the perfect place to throw a low-key, low-stress backyard wedding, that still had tons of style + personality. Color was key and the event design was a family affair: J + A, and their talented fam and friends designed, made and set everything up + we’d say the end result was totally flawless. Let’s hear what Jac has to say about it all:
Edwardian-Inspired Wedding in a Historic Gold Mining Town: Alexandra + William
We’re sure you can already tell that Alexandra + William’s wedding, captured beautifully by Hazelwood Photo, isn’t traditional in any sense of the word. And we have to say, that’s exactly why we love it so much! These two were wed at Alexandra’s family home which just so happens to be a colonial farmhouse built in the mid-1800s and located in the historic gold mining town of Jacksonville, Oregon. Pretty unreal, right? And not only was the location ultra amazing, but they encouraged their guests to join in on the fun + dress with Edwardian-era (~1900-1910) fashion in mind. This helped create an environment that really felt true to the time period + gave the wedding a unique sense of history.
Elegant + Fun Baltimore Estate Wedding: Brigit + Billy
Brigit + Billy are high school sweethearts who have since traveled and lived together all over the country, supporting each others dreams + ambitions along the way. They tied the knot at a gorgeous private home in Baltimore, Maryland, working with a brilliant team of creatives to bring their key ideas to life. Their planners at Firefly Events told us, Brigit loves metallics, geometric shapes, Moscow Mules, and David Bowie. From our very first meeting, we knew we had found a kindred spirit! Sounds like the beginnings of a pretty great celebration, no?
Summertime Backyard New Hampshire Wedding: Megan + Andrew
Today’s wedding will have you dreaming of the warm, summer days that lay ahead with a sweet, vibrant palette and lots of dreamy summertime details! Megan + Andrew’s venue, his family farm in New Hampshire, has been in Andrew’s family since the late 1920s and it was the perfect place for these tow lovebirds to gather with family + close friends to celebrate their nuptials.
Romantic, Relaxed Backyard Wedding: Heidi + Joshua
Planning a backyard wedding definitely has its perks: no venue fee, plenty of time to prepare for the big day, and having a personal backdrop right at your fingertips. But it definitely has its tricky aspects, too, and Heidi + Joshua handled those challenges like pros, as you’re about to see firsthand in their magical backyard wedding celebration!
Stylish Bohemian Backyard Wedding: Candice + Joe
When dreaming up their ideal wedding day, Candice + Joe knew they wanted a down-to-earth fete where their guests could mingle, dance, drink and, all around, just have a good time. This lead them to plan the ultimate backyard wedding celebration, filled with bright, beautiful blooms (thanks to Wildflower San Clemente), stylish boho furniture from Found Rentals, and a laid back, yet eclectic, vibe – and we’re guessing their day will inspire all those of you who are hoping for the same!
French-Bohemian Backyard Wedding: Gabby + Patrick
When today’s bride, Gabby, described her + Patrick’s Utah backyard wedding as having a French-Bohemian aesthetic, complete with a s’mores bar, a handmade (by the groom!) wedding arch and lacey, white bridesmaid dresses, well, we were utterly on board with all the details and just couldn’t hardly wait to share! Then, we heard that the amazing India Earl was the one behind the lens, and our affinity for this pretty, love-filled wedding celebration only grew (by about 1000%)!
Fruit-Inspired Backyard Wedding: Francesca + Matt
From just the intro image alone, we know we’re going to have a hard time deciding which are our favorite elements from Francesca + Matt’s colorful, backyard wedding in Stow, Massachusetts! Because when the photos are as good as these pretties by Ashley Caroline Photography, it definitely makes it impossible to play favorites. What we will say, however (and with confidence, too), is that we are loving F + M’s main source of design + palette inspiration: fruit! The tables exemplified the colorful theme, with vibrant, tropical florals and fresh fruit scattered artfully around. Cut grapefruits, whole cherries and oranges were spread among some farm tables while other tables had eucalyptus leaves and candles. These (yummy!) details gave a fresh spin to the idea of an al fresco summer reception feast.
Playful + Colorful Austin, Texas Wedding: Lucy + John
Guys, get ready to completely fall for Lucy + John and their absolutely adorable Austin, Texas wedding! We promise it’ll get your week started off on the right foot :) L + J kept things in perspective while planning their day, looking for a venue that was a local spot they already loved and frequented, keeping their guest list small and totally intimate, and serving an entirely vegetarian menu because that’s what they eat on a daily basis. In addition to all the personalized details, we love how they made their celebration a community affair, opting to involve their talented friends and family in the planning and design process.
Elegant Backyard Bash: Caroline + Mike
When Caroline and Mike decided to tie the knot, a friend shared that even though many traditions in our society have faded out, it’s so wonderful that this one thing has remained – that being the celebration of marriage. This observation sent Caroline on a whirlwind, as she imagined her wedding day as being a celebration of their love, rather than a formal event.
Intimate “About Time” Themed Wedding, Starring a Vintage Red Lace Dress
Happy Valentine’s Day to all the lovers, best friends, and chocolate addicts out there! You know we like to celebrate love every day here at GWS, but we can’t deny there’s a bit more excitement in the air today! We’ll be hugging our dear ones close, sending off sweet notes, and maybe even indulging in a bit of self-love (hello, bubble bath + wine), but we have to begin by sharing some love for YOU! We’re thrilled to not only be your resource for inspiration and fashion, but to get to know many of you, put your artistry + talents on display, and most of all, to share you’re incredible stories of love. Thank you for reading, sharing, and ooohing + aaaahing with us along the way!
Fun + Colorful Vintage 60s Wedding in New Orleans
The benefit of knowing what you want? Knowing exactly what you don’t want. Carter + Emily wanted to celebrated the commitment of marriage…without the traditions. For them, that meant no wedding party, toasts, first dances, or something blue-s. Instead, this fun duo opted for fried chicken on paper plates, springtime blooms, vintage garments, and building a day that put their love for each other (and NOLA!) on full display!
Heartfelt Cape Cod Backyard Wedding: Dev + Ryan
Today’s stunning wedding is more than just a handful of pretty images. While we promise there’s plenty of that to go around too – thanks to the talented photo duo behind Henry + Mac – the sweet, homespun vibe behind the entire day is what’s currently tugging at our sentimental heartstrings. Dev is a wedding planner herself, so she definitely knew how to infuse the Cape Cod backyard setting with lots of love + personality. Let’s hear a bit more about her + Ryan’s beautiful day:
English Garden Inspired Backyard Wedding: Amy + Brian
Amy + Brian knew they wanted to host a smaller, more intimate affair that was a true celebration of their love and life together. They decided Amy’s family backyard (in Orange County) would serve as the perfect setting for their English Garden inspired summer wedding, and got to work brainstorming ideas for crafting a unique + meaningful event. While it’s hard to pinpoint our favorite detail from the day, the swimming pool awash with floating candles + garden blooms just might take the cake. Talk about romantic…wait until you see it! Here’s a bit more from Amy about what inspired their choices for the day:

Colorful California Backyard Wedding: Stefanie + Leigh
Stefanie + Leigh went on quite the journey when it came to finding the perfect wedding venue, and I’m sure their dilemma will ring true with some of you as well. But in the end, they found the perfect place to celebrate their love + exchange their vows, with a colorful + festive wedding in their beautiful Los Angeles backyard! They incorporated lots of playful details that you’re definitely going to love. Personally, I’m crazy about their adorable ribbon-draped ceremony arch + the super pretty garden florals, featuring the most beautiful pink peonies!
