Stefanie + Leigh went on quite the journey when it came to finding the perfect wedding venue, and I’m sure their dilemma will ring true with some of you as well. But in the end, they found the perfect place to celebrate their love + exchange their vows, with a colorful + festive wedding in their beautiful Los Angeles backyard! They incorporated lots of playful details that you’re definitely going to love. Personally, I’m crazy about their adorable ribbon-draped ceremony arch + the super pretty garden florals, featuring the most beautiful pink peonies! Here’s a bit more from Stefanie about their challenging venue hunt:
Colorful California Backyard Wedding: Stefanie + Leigh
Playful Rustic Fiesta Wedding: Ann-Marie + John
Happy Monday, loves! We’re starting the week off right with a pretty + playful backyard wedding, captured by the super lovely Katie Pritchard. Katie is not only a talented photographer, but our amazing editorial assistant + a vital part of the GWS team! But, ok, enough of the gushing, let’s hear more about this gorge wedding you’re about to see! :)
Romantic UK Lake District Garden Wedding: Chloe + Stuart
Happy Monday, guys! We’re excited to start the week with Chloe + Stuart’s super romantic UK wedding, which was brimming with some of the most lovely details + gorgeous florals we’ve seen in a minute! The day had a total summer picnic-meets-secret garden vibe that we seriously love and we’re guessing you’ll find yourselves smitten, too. Lots to pin, share + be inspired by! Here’s a bit more about the day from Chloe:
Sweet New Jersey Backyard Wedding: Amanda + Alex
We’re totally suckers for a sweet backyard wedding, and if we were to throw one ourselves right now, it might look something like Amanda + Alex’s charming homespun New Jersey nuptials. For these cuties, as much focus was placed on their guests as was on the two of them. And that turned their day into a celebration filled with so much love + meaning, it couldn’t not be a total success. Let’s hear a little bit more about all that from Amanda:
Intimate Boho Backyard Wedding: Jennie + Zach
Jennie + Zach’s intimate bohemian backyard wedding could easily be mistaken for a stunning styled shoot, but it’s actually one of the most authentic weddings we’ve seen. With Jennie’s dad being diagnosed with a rare stage IV cancer, she + Zach decided quickly to move the ceremony date up so that he could be there comfortably, and able to walk her down the aisle. With the help of their close friends and family, and Nikki + Taylor of Blooming House Collective, Jennie + Zach pulled their beautiful celebration together in less than a week (WOW!), and created a ceremony and a moment in time that will always be remembered by the two of them and their guests as something incredible.
Modern Toronto Backyard Wedding: Jac + Adrian
Easy, simple and inviting were the key words Jac + Adrian initially threw around when thinking about their big day. And they already knew where they’d tie the knot before they knew any of the other details. Jac’s family cottage on Lake Simcoe in Toronto was the perfect place to throw a low-key, low-stress backyard wedding, that still had tons of style + personality. Color was key and the event design was a family affair: J + A, and their talented fam and friends designed, made and set everything up + we’d say the end result was totally flawless. Let’s hear what Jac has to say about it all:
Edwardian-Inspired Wedding in a Historic Gold Mining Town: Alexandra + William
We’re sure you can already tell that Alexandra + William’s wedding, captured beautifully by Hazelwood Photo, isn’t traditional in any sense of the word. And we have to say, that’s exactly why we love it so much! These two were wed at Alexandra’s family home which just so happens to be a colonial farmhouse built in the mid-1800s and located in the historic gold mining town of Jacksonville, Oregon. Pretty unreal, right? And not only was the location ultra amazing, but they encouraged their guests to join in on the fun + dress with Edwardian-era (~1900-1910) fashion in mind. This helped create an environment that really felt true to the time period + gave the wedding a unique sense of history.
Elegant + Fun Baltimore Estate Wedding: Brigit + Billy
Brigit + Billy are high school sweethearts who have since traveled and lived together all over the country, supporting each others dreams + ambitions along the way. They tied the knot at a gorgeous private home in Baltimore, Maryland, working with a brilliant team of creatives to bring their key ideas to life. Their planners at Firefly Events told us, Brigit loves metallics, geometric shapes, Moscow Mules, and David Bowie. From our very first meeting, we knew we had found a kindred spirit! Sounds like the beginnings of a pretty great celebration, no?
Heartfelt Cape Cod Backyard Wedding: Dev + Ryan
Today’s stunning wedding is more than just a handful of pretty images. While we promise there’s plenty of that to go around too – thanks to the talented photo duo behind Henry + Mac – the sweet, homespun vibe behind the entire day is what’s currently tugging at our sentimental heartstrings. Dev is a wedding planner herself, so she definitely knew how to infuse the Cape Cod backyard setting with lots of love + personality. Let’s hear a bit more about her + Ryan’s beautiful day:
Intimate San Diego Backyard Wedding: Gianna + Chad
Today’s bride, Gianna, is a bridal stylist for one of our most favorite bridal shops, The Dress Theory, in San Diego, California. (How fun it must be to be surrounded by that much pretty on the daily, right?!). And though Gianna, of course, wore a gorgeous gown from The Dress Theory, her boss + the owner of the salon had more to do with the wedding than just providing a pretty dress! Gianna + Chad’s photographer, Michelle Lillywhite, tells us the story below:
Wes Anderson Inspired Backyard Wedding: Sarah + Corbin
When it came to designing their wedding day, Sarah + Corbin knew they wanted to include personal touches throughout the entire setting + create a scene that melded together all of their favorite things. They dreamt up the idea to have the styling mimic that of a warm + cozy home, but wanted to incorporate their love of the outdoors, too. So the perfect compromise was a backyard wedding where they could create lots of fun ‘wall’ vignettes styled with the quirkiest finds they could imagine! And when Sarah told us, My favorite director is Wes Anderson and he definitely had some impact on the design and style, it all started to make perfect sense! More from her on the overall design plan below:
Bright Boho Backyard Wedding: Kika + Parker
Kika + Parker are a super relaxed duo who wanted their wedding to be more reminiscent of a dinner party than an overly scheduled, rigid affair. To make that happen, they had a cocktail hour to welcome their guests, then invited everyone to join them in their sweet, emotional ceremony (co-officiated by their sisters!), then there was another cocktail hour, and then they feasted on seasonal cuisine + listened to bluegrass music under the stars! Sounds incredibly perfect, don’t you think? Let’s hear a bit more about the day from K + P below:
Rustic New Zealand Backyard Wedding: Sophia + Benjamin
Sophia + Benjamin created the ultimate DIY backyard wedding at Ben’s family farm in New Zealand. Together, they handmade many of the rustic details you’re about to see: from the ceremony arch to Soph’s wedding dress. But the most impressive (and their favorite project) of all were the reception tables. They built 60 tables out of recycled pallets, which helped them truly pull off the rustic look they were going for, save a few dollars along the way, and seamlessly match the table decor + picturesque vibe. Below, they tell us more about the direction they hoped their wedding would take:
Fairytale Backyard Wedding: Micheli + Josh
Micheli + Josh met in elementary school (cue a collective awww from all the hopeless romantics out there) and reconnected 16 years later when Josh moved back to their hometown of Roseville, California. Micheli recalls, We met up at a restaurant not having any idea what one another looked like, but once he walked in, we were instantly drawn to each other. We’ve been together ever since.
Watercolor-Inspired Catskills Farm Wedding: Betsy + Raul
Betsy + Raul knew they wanted to have a low-key DIY farm wedding, inspired by two of their favorite things: watercolor + wildflowers. And as luck would have it, the perfect location for their big day was right at their fingertips and they hosted their celebration at Raul’s gorgeous family farm in the Catskills. Both of their families worked very hard to help them handcraft fun design elements that ensured their day was both beautiful + meaningful. From watercolor-painted menus to hand-carved and personalized birch wood candle favors to pretty chalkboard directional signage, no detail was overlooked, and every element was made all the more special since so much love went into bringing it to life. I know a lot of you are in the beginning stages of planning a handmade day of your own, so here’s some sound DIY advice from Betsy that you might find helpful:
Canadian Backyard Wedding: Kara + Tom
Kara + Tom wanted their wedding to be a fun, relaxed summer party that reflected who they are together. And since Kara is a graphic designer by trade, their celebration was the perfect chance to really let her artistic talents fly free and craft a day that was filled with personal touches + eclectic details. They weren’t afraid to freely mix styles and they did a great job of blending vintage + rustic items with elements that were more sleek + modern. And that’s something that can definitely serve as inspiration for all of you who don’t want to stick to a certain style, but aren’t sure how things would turn out if you don’t! Here’s a bit more about the day from Kara:
English Garden Inspired Backyard Wedding: Amy + Brian
Amy + Brian knew they wanted to host a smaller, more intimate affair that was a true celebration of their love and life together. They decided Amy’s family backyard (in Orange County) would serve as the perfect setting for their English Garden inspired summer wedding, and got to work brainstorming ideas for crafting a unique + meaningful event. While it’s hard to pinpoint our favorite detail from the day, the swimming pool awash with floating candles + garden blooms just might take the cake. Talk about romantic…wait until you see it! Here’s a bit more from Amy about what inspired their choices for the day:
Colorful California Backyard Wedding: Stefanie + Leigh
Stefanie + Leigh went on quite the journey when it came to finding the perfect wedding venue, and I’m sure their dilemma will ring true with some of you as well.
